As the elderly population continues to grow, so will the demand for long term health care professionals. Learn how to plan, implement, and evaluate interventions and programs for the senior community through LSU Alexandria's online Bachelor of Science in Long Term Care Administration. Students will gain a thorough understanding of team-centered care of the elderly, evidence-based care for vulnerable populations, communication skills, and financial aspects of health care. 

This program requires an intensive internship which is a structured program of supervised participation in health care organizations with emphasis on nursing homes and long-term care facilities. Students must work a minimum of 260 hours in each of 4 classes, keep a journal describing their work activities and hours worked, and write weekly reports and a final paper describing the learning value of their internship. Students must also participate in group and individual sessions with the instructor. Students must make application to the internship in the semester prior to that in which it will be taken. An internship must be secured before registering for the class.

Admission Requirements Online Long Term Care Administration

For university acceptance, first-time freshman must meet the following criteria:

  • Complete high school Core curriculum for college readiness in place at time of high school graduation
  • Not be required to take more than one developmental course
  • Have a high school grade point average of at least 2.0
  • Meet one of the following:
    • Have an ACT composite of 20 or higher
    • Have a high school Core grade point average of at least 2.0

 

Transfer students to LSUA must meet one of the following sets of criteria:

  • Have earned a transferable associate degree or higher
  • Have earned at least 18 hours of college-level credit, including a college-level English and college-level mathematics course, with a grade of “C” or higher in each, and an overall GPA of at least 2.0
  • Have earned at least 12 hours of college-level credit from LSUE or CLTCC Bridge Program, including a college-level English and college-level mathematics course, with a grade of “C” or higher in each, and an overall GPA of at least 2.0.
  • If the above are not met, meet freshman admission requirements and be in good standing with their previous institution
