Admission Requirements

Graduate School

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited U.S. or equivalent from a foreign institution
  • GPA – 3.0 on all undergraduate work (or last half-degree) and a 3.0 on any graduate work already completed
  • GRE scores or approved GRE waiver (see below)

Program Requirements

  • 3 letters of recommendation – one from employer – not friend/relative
  • Statement of purpose- motivation to attend LSU Kinesiology program, including personal and career goals, and your commitment to excellence
  • Target GRE score of 295 or approved GRE waiver (see below)

GMAT/GRE Alternative

The admission policies of the School of Kinesiology provide for a possible alternative to the GRE/GMAT requirement for students who meet the following criteria:

  • A minimum of a 3.0 G.P.A. in their last 60 hours of undergraduate work
  • A minimum of a 3.0 G.P.A. on all (i.e., cumulative) previous graduate work
  • Three strong letters of recommendation
  • Three years of demonstrated successful professional work experience as evidenced by a resume OR one full year of service as a full-time employee at LSU

Regarding the GRE Waiver Request Essay

Please discuss and describe how examples from your professional work experience demonstrate in a 1,000-word essay:

  • Your motivation to succeed as a professional.
  • Your ability to persevere in the face of demanding professional challenges.
  • Your intellectual ability to master challenging and difficult subject matter related to your selected area within kinesiology.
  • How your selected area of interest within kinesiology will assist your current profession.

Be sure your answers specifically address each of these areas. Only applicants who provide well-written and acceptable answers to these questions will be considered for the GRE/GMAT waiver.
