Meet Luv Berkley
1. What initially motivated you to return to school, and how did you see it aligning with your career goals?
I am a huge advocate for my friends, colleagues, and coworkers furthering their education. I aspire and encourage others not to settle for anything less than greatness. As far as returning to school and seeing how it aligned with my career, I did not take any of that into account, honestly. I just knew that furthering my education would open more doors for me, and I am always open to more opportunities.
2. What difference has the Professional Achievement Grant made in your educational experience compared to if you'd pursued it independently?
The Professional Achievement Grant made it possible for me to further my education without the stressors of being financially strained. Furthering your education is not an easy task. Taking away the financial aspects of it makes it seem more attainable.
3. What has been your favorite course or topic you have learned thus far? Why?
My favorite course was Organizational Behavior in Healthcare. I really enjoyed this course because it allowed for self-assessments. It helped me determine what type of leader I am and allowed me to see areas for self-improvement.
4. How has participating in this program influenced the way you approach challenges or responsibilities in your current role?
Participating in this program has encouraged self-assessment and self-reflection. I have already begun to analyze situations and challenges in my current role using this approach, and I believe that it has improved situational outcomes as a whole.
5. What do you see as the biggest benefits of online education?
The greatest benefit of online education is flexibility. Removing the constraints of scheduled class times with a more liberalized schedule allows the working student more time to prioritize the work/school/life balance.
6. If you were speaking to an SHG colleague about this program, what would you highlight as the most impactful benefit or experience?
I would highlight the online aspect of the courses along with the shorter class windows. I really like that the classes are accelerated and not long and drawn out. I believe it takes away the “burnout” that long classes have caused in the past. I also appreciate that the lectures can be listened to as many times as needed. In past in-person classes, missing a lecture or part of it would reflect on my learning experience immensely.
7. How do you think this experience will help you achieve your future career goals?
This experience will help me achieve my future goals by allowing other doors of opportunity to open for me.
8. How do you see yourself using your degree in the future?
In the future, I could see myself as an Administrator in Long-Term Care. However, if I stay in my current position that I love, I will bring more knowledge and skills to my position, the community, and the company that I serve.
