Balancing a fast-track graduation plan, a passion for real estate, and a strong academic performance is no small task, but Arin Lacey did it through focus and determination. A Baton Rouge native and senior at LSU Shreveport, Arin is set to graduate early from the online Bachelor of Science in Finance with a Real Estate concentration. Recently, her hard work was recognized when she was named the Student of the Year by the LSU Shreveport College of Business in a moment that took her completely by surprise.

Meet Arin Lacey

  1. What was your initial reaction when you learned you had been named Student of the Year for your program?
My initial reaction when I was named the Award Holder for the College of Business was pure shock! I knew I had been working really hard to graduate early, but I didn’t know that title would be next to my name.
  2. What do you think helped you stand out among your peers?
To stand out, I think it's all about passion and going the extra mile. Show genuine interest in your field, participate actively, and always strive for excellence.
  3. What course, professor, or moment had the biggest impact on your journey at LSUS?
Dr. Tracie Pasold and Dr. Keena Franklin both had the biggest effect on me at LSUS. There were times I wanted to give up, saying “I’m tired of school” but every time they would be there to say “Nope not today. You can do this!”
  4. How did you stay focused and motivated throughout your degree program?
My family kept me motivated, and they were a great support system that encouraged me daily. I was also motivated by focusing on the end goal of how this degree will help my future career aspirations. Staying focused involved setting clear goals, breaking tasks into smaller steps, and celebrating small victories along the way. But most importantly, I didn’t overwork myself! Pacing yourself in your work is the key to success.
  5. What study habits or routines helped you succeed academically?
The study habits I used include creating a dedicated study space, sticking to a schedule, and using active techniques that I knew would work for me.
  6. How has this degree shaped your personal or professional goals?
This degree will help me aim higher in my career and it’ll help my personal growth. This is just the start for me, as I plan on returning to get my MBA and also attending Real Estate School.
  7. What advice would you give to future students—especially those completing their degrees online?
For future students, especially those online, I'd say stay organized, connect with your peers and professors, and don't be afraid to ask for help. These years are when you can make small mistakes and learn from them to succeed. You got this!
