LSUA Chair and Professor of philosophy Dr. Holly Wilson who specializes in bioethics and medical ethics was recently quoted in a Fox News article titled, Ventilator shortage during coronavirus crisis forcing doctors to decide who lives or dies, written by Hollie McKay.
The shortage of ventilators across the country has brought to view the difficult decisions that doctors, with the help of the hospital ethics committee, has to make whether medical resources can be beneficial for the patient and whether the patient can become better through the use of a ventilator. She adds that a triage committee or an ethics committee should be involved so that doctors will not be "overly stressed by having to make a decision that could mean the death of a patient" alone.
