Being There: Creating Online Instructor Presence
Instructor presence is the way you personalize your interactions with students in the course. In this video, we will discuss the importance of instructor presence and ways you can establish it in your courses. Think back to some of your more memorable professors from your own academic career. What about their teaching style got you invested in the course? How did they establish positive relationships with you and your classmates over the course of a semester. Developing connections with your students is critically important in an online environment as you are removed from the physical space of a traditional classroom where you would normally interact with students. You must still foster these connections with students for your online course through the design of your course activities and through regular postings.
