Moodle Site Integration
April 19, 2023
Starting in summer 2023 and moving forward, the LSU Online Moodle site (lsuonline.moodle.lsu.edu) will be integrated with the LSU campus Moodle site (moodle.lsu.edu). This is part of an ongoing effort to reduce the number of Moodle sites where faculty, staff, and students instruct and take courses. This will include the following changes:
- All new LSU Online courses for the First Summer (3D) term will be created in moodle.lsu.edu
- No new courses will be created in lsuonline.moodle.lsu.edu
The LSU Online Moodle site will still be available to all users for the near future - Old LSU Online teaching courses, master courses, and any LSU Online backups will remain on lsuonline.moodle.edu
- Users can access the old LSU Online Moodle site either directly or through the My Courses page in the LSU campus Moodle site.
- If you are currently enrolled in a visible main campus LSU course: Current LSU Online courses can be found in the LSUOnline tab. Main campus LSU courses will remain in your Courses tab.
- If you are not enrolled in a visible main campus LSU course: Current LSU Online courses can be found in your Courses tab.
- Previous courses from the LSU Online Moodle site can be found in the Archives tab.
- Faculty will still be able to request Master Courses through the Course Preferences block in Moodle, but only one Master Course can be requested for the same course in both campus and online programs. If you would like more than one Master Course shell for a course, please contact the FTC.
- Cross-enrollment will not be affected by this integration. Continue to follow the current cross-enrollment process.
If you currently teach for LSU Online, we recommend that you update any browser bookmarks you might have that point to lsuonline.moodle.lsu.edu.
Finding your courses
Both LSU A&M (Baton Rouge) and LSU Online courses after 2023 First Summer will be found on your My Courses page of moodle.lsu.edu.
- All users not enrolled in a visible campus course will see their LSU Online courses in their Courses tab
- Users who are enrolled in a visible campus course will see those campus courses in their Courses tab and will see all LSU Online courses in their LSUOnline tab
Backups and importing content
Very soon, semester backup files for LSU Online will be moved to the LSU Moodle site. This means that instructors will be able to import materials into the LSU campus Moodle site from LSU Online courses through Simple Restore (see GROK 20291). Conversely, instructors will not be able to use Selective Import (see GROK 20209) to access LSU Online materials created previous to the 2023 First Summer term. In addition:
- Semester backup files of LSU Online courses will no longer be available on the LSU Online Moodle site. These will be available in LSU Moodle from now on.
- Instructors will be able to access materials through Selective Import after the 2023 First Summer term.
- If you would like to move an LSU Online Master Course into LSU Moodle and you cannot find the backup file through Simple Restore, make a backup of the course in LSU Online Moodle and contact the FTC for help with restoring your course into LSU Moodle. See GROK 20165 for help with making backup files.
Please note that courses must be smaller than 500 MB to use Simple Restore. If your course is larger than 500 MB, you will be unable to back up or restore it.
