Developed and facilitated by LSU Online & Continuing Education, this course is designed for anyone who is new to teaching online or is interested in learning more about facilitating an online course. Participants will explore best practices in making connections with students, creating a community of learning, and delivering an engaging experience for their students. Many of the strategies covered in this course are also applicable to blended courses.
Through this instructor-led four-week online course, you will have the opportunity to learn from your peers and explore aspects of online learning and teaching. You can anticipate spending 15-20 hours to complete the course. Topics covered in this course include
- Regulatory requirements for online courses
- Communicating with students
- Instructor presence
- Active learning strategies
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Create a communication policy that includes expectations for grading turnaround, office hours, active participation, and meets federal guidelines for regulatory substantive interactions (RSI)
- Plan active learning strategies for your course
- Identify Moodle and other support services and resources for faculty and students
