Panopto
Panopto is a video platform which includes software for recording and live streaming videos, a portal for storing and managing your videos, a search engine for finding content within your videos, and interactive video players. Panopto is a great resource for recording lectures and creating supplemental video tutorials for increased learning in and outside of the classroom to improve student learning and is available to current LSU faculty and staff. These videos can be added to your Moodle course for easy access.
Prioritizing Panopto
LSU Online and Continuing Education has begun the move toward a single, supported video solution by prioritizing Panopto and transitioning away from Kaltura video tools by the start of the 2022 academic year. While we are taking our time with the transition to ensure as little impact as possible to students, faculty, and the courses being taught, we ask that any new content be created or added via Panopto and not using Kaltura.
Change is always challenging but we are committed to making this process as painless as possible for our faculty and students. During the next few months, LSU Online and Continuing Education will work to migrate your videos from Kaltura MyMedia over to your Panopto cloud folders then finding and replacing your Kaltura course content with the correct Panopto substitution. We will need your patience and assistance in identifying any temporarily broken content that may arise during this transition. It is our intention to have your Fall 2021 course content converted prior to the start of the term. We will keep you posted on our progress via this webpage. No new Kaltura content should be added to Moodle effective Fall 2021, this includes the use of Kaltura desktop clients like Kaltura Capture that create new Kaltura content outside of Moodle.
Panopto Switch Update
LSU Online and Continuing Education is completing the move away from Kaltura video tools to Panopto for the start of the 2022 academic year.
While we are taking our time with the transition to ensure as little impact as possible to students, faculty, and the courses being taught, no new content should be created or added using Kaltura.
Faculty should now see a folder containing converted videos called “Kaltura Content” or “Kaltura Migration” in their personal folder on the Panopto Cloud site. We will need your patience and assistance in identifying any temporarily broken content in your courses. We ask that faculty check the Panopto links to ensure they are working. If you encounter any issues, please use one of the resources below. Issues may include:
- A user clicks on a video, but it does not play
- No Panopto link or video replacement exists in Moodle for a Kaltura link or video
- Students cannot access a video in a course
- Instructors cannot find their videos when logging directly into Panopto
There are several resources to help you troubleshoot these and any other issues with course videos. Please see the LSU Online & Continuing Education website for online resources you may access at your own pace. You may also find helpful information in the following GROK articles:

Considerations
