The Bachelor of Science in Accounting program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). 

The Accounting Information Systems & Data Analytics concentration and Fraud & Forensics Accounting concentration are currently candidates for ACBSP accreditation and will receive accreditation two years after launch and a sufficient number of students successfully graduate from the program.

Licensure & Certification

Students from outside Louisiana who plan to sit for the CPA exam should check with the State Board of Accountancy in the state they plan to take the CPA Exam for educational requirements of that state OR should review the requirements posted on the Licensure Disclosure chart for the Bachelor of Science in Accounting in the LSUA catalog.

I have no college credits

For university acceptance, first-time freshman must meet the following criteria: 

  • Complete high school Core curriculum for college readiness in place at time of high school graduation 
  • Not be required to take more than one developmental course 
  • Have a high school grade point average of at least 2.0 
  • Meet one of the following: 
    • Have an ACT composite of 20 or higher 
    • Have a high school Core grade point average of at least 2.0 
I have some college credits

Transfer students to LSUA must meet one of the following sets of criteria: 

  • Have earned a transferable associate degree or higher 
  • Have earned at least 18 hours of college-level credit, including a college-level English and college-level mathematics course, with a grade of “C” or higher in each, and an overall GPA of at least 2.0 
  • Have earned at least 12 hours of college-level credit from LSUE or CLTCC Bridge Program, including a college-level English and college-level mathematics course, with a grade of “C” or higher in each, and an overall GPA of at least 2.0. 
  • If the above are not met, meet freshman admission requirements and be in good standing with their previous institution  

Transfer Credits: LSUA processes transfer credits in accordance with campus policies at the time the courses were taken. Prior to 2020, LSUA did not have a course repeat policy that excluded grades from GPA calculations. As a result, your stated GPA at LSUA may be affected, which could impact your admission decision.

LSUA’s online accounting program offers competitive, flat-rate tuition with no out-of-state fees. Plus, you may be able to save even more by transferring up to 75% of previous credits.

What Will I Learn?

The online Bachelor of Science in Accounting is delivered completely online and led by accounting field-experts at LSUA. Students will gain a thorough understanding of accounting and emerging techniques relevant to the profession. Additionally, our program prepares graduates to pass the CPA examination and practice in the public or private accounting industry with confidence.

The Bachelor of Science in Accounting equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary for managing a company or an organization’s financial information and tax documents. Accounting graduates pursue a variety of paths after graduation. Most seek careers in public accounting (including auditing, tax preparation, and business consulting) and private accounting (including financial accounting, management accounting, and internal auditing). Some continue their education and earn a Master of Science in Accounting or a Master of Business Administration with (or without) a concentration in Accounting. Others attend law school.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will be able to prepare financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Students will be able to identify appropriate managerial and business issues essential to analyzing accounting data.
  • Students will be able to analyze auditing standards and acceptable practices in accordance with Generally Accepted Auditing Standards.
  • Students will be able to examine topics important to the taxation of individuals and business entities. 
  • Students will be able to examine ethical issues significant to the accounting profession.  
Equipment Requirements

Accounting often requires specific software. Our upper-level classes utilize software that requires a Windows-based PC. Chromebooks, tablets, and Mac computers do not currently run this software well. You will need access to a Windows-based PC or laptop to participate in these classes.

General Accounting

The online Bachelor of Science in Accounting equips you with the essential knowledge and skills to excel in accounting, finance, and business management. Accredited by ACBSP, this 120-credit program covers key areas such as financial reporting, auditing, and management accounting, while also preparing you to pursue CPA licensure. Designed for flexibility, the fully online format allows you to advance your education and career from anywhere  

Accounting Information Systems and Data Analytics 

This concentration is ideal for students interested in the technological side of accounting, equipping them with the tools to thrive in today's rapidly evolving financial landscape. As a student of the Information Systems & Data Analytics concentration, you'll experience a unique blend of accounting expertise and cutting-edge technology. Students will be exposed to various software applications such as Excel, Access, Power BI, Tableau, Power Query, SQL, SAP, Alteryx, and UI Path. 

Fraud and Forensic Accounting

This concentration is designed for students drawn to the excitement of financial investigations. Students will be introduced to a professional landscape where numbers reveal hidden narratives-- from dissecting business transactions to contributing to civil and criminal disputes. Students will also gain the base knowledge necessary to pursue the relevant certifications to become a Certified Forensic Accountant.
