LSUS Business Faculty Member Recognized Among Top Researchers in Field
SHREVEPORT – LSUS assistant professor Dr. Minseong Kim has been recognized as one of the top researchers in the Sport, Leisure, and Tourism field for the third consecutive year.
The recognition comes from Stanford University, which compiles the "Top 2% Scientists List" using the citation database Scopus and the Elsevier Data Repository.
Kim ranks No. 48 in the subfield of Sport, Leisure, and Tourism out of more than 9,000 researchers. Among researchers from all 176 subfields, Kim is ranked 11,400.
Those rankings are his highest in his three years of inclusion on Stanford's top researchers list.
"It is both humbling and motivating," said Kim, who teaches classes in hospitality marketing and hospitality management as well as hospitality and casino marketing. "While I am honored to be ranked among the top two percent of scholars worldwide for three consecutive years, it serves as a reminder of the responsibility I carry to continue contributing meaningful work to my field.
"As a relatively younger academic, I see this recognition as a testament to the support from my institution, colleagues, and students, who have all played a role in creating an environment where my research can thrive."
The various citation metrics used to compile the rankings intend to recognize researchers with career-long and single-year impacts.
Metrics include the total number of citations and h-index (productivity of researchers) along with other measurements designed to gauge the quality and impact of research, not just the quantity of citations.
Kim's research spans topics that explore human behavior in service-oriented contexts. His most cited research areas include sustainability, corporate social responsibility, and digital engagement – particularly within tourism and hospitality.
Broader research areas include digital marketing, virtual influencers, and consumer psychology, which often intersect with advertising.
"I've received tremendous support from people like College of Business Dean Dr. Mary Lois White, Research Director Dr. Binshan Lin, and other College of Business leaders throughout my academic journey," Kim said. "The dean's financial backing through research grants and professional development opportunities has enabled me to present my work globally, while Lin's mentorship has guided me through the challenges of academic publishing.
"Their combined financial, mental, and professional support has been essential to my success and creating a collaborative and nurturing environment."
Kim joined the LSUS faculty in 2019 after completing his doctorate at the University of Florida.
