EUNICE, La. – The LSU Eunice Fire and Emergency Services program has received The Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE) Recognition, the United States Fire Administration recently announced. LSUE’s program is the only Louisiana institution and one of the few in the Gulf South to hold the prestigious honor.

LSUE is one of only seven institutions nationwide that carry the FESHE Recognition certificate at the associate degree level. The honor is an acknowledgment that a collegiate emergency services degree program meets the minimum standards of excellence established by FESHE professional development committees and the National Fire Academy.

“This honor is a testament to the caliber of faculty and curriculum we have in our Fire and Emergency Services program,” LSU Eunice Chancellor Dr. Nancee Sorenson said. “We are proud that many of our alumni from this program not only serve as valuable first responders throughout Louisiana and beyond but are administrators in their respective municipalities.”

Only 21 institutions in total have FESHE Recognition at any level – associate, bachelor, and/or graduate.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, these regionally or nationally accredited colleges and universities have demonstrated a commitment to the nationally recognized FESHE model of standardized professional development education criteria. FESHE concentrates on degree programs that emphasize firefighting response, fire prevention, fire administration, and EMS management.

The LSU Eunice Fire and Emergency Services program is available entirely online and in hybrid formats. Find more information about LSUE’s hybrid Fire and Emergency Services program at www.lsue.edu.
