Agribusiness is at the heart of our global economy. It shapes our food systems, trade, sustainability practices, and innovation in agriculture. To meet the growing demand for professionals who can navigate both business and agriculture, LSUA has introduced a new Agribusiness concentration within its online Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program. This concentration equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in one of today’s most vital industries.

Why Agribusiness Matters

From farm management and commodity markets to global supply chains and agricultural finance, agribusiness plays a critical role in sustaining communities and economies. With new technologies, climate considerations, and shifting trade policies, the industry is evolving faster than ever before. Professionals who understand both business strategy and agricultural systems are needed to drive positive change and growth in this field.

About the Agribusiness Concentration

The new Agribusiness concentration blends LSUA’s already-strong business curriculum with specialized courses in agriculture to provide a well-rounded education that prepares students for leadership roles. Students will gain a foundation in finance, management, and marketing, while also exploring agricultural policy, natural resource economics, and business planning tailored to the agribusiness sector.

Core Agribusiness Courses include:

  • Natural Resource Economics, Agricultural Policy, and Trade
  • Agricultural Commodity Marketing and Risk Management
  • Agricultural Finance
  • Agricultural Business Planning and Management

Students in the Agribusiness concentration will:

  • Build a foundation in ethical business strategy and decision-making
  • Learn to manage agricultural enterprises and supply chains effectively
  • Gain skills in financial analysis, risk management, and marketing
  • Understand sustainability practices and the role of agriculture in global trade
  • Develop leadership and communication skills to guide teams in diverse settings

This mix of courses and the learning outcomes means students will graduate with both business acumen and industry-specific expertise.

Industry Demand & Career Opportunities

Agribusiness is a growing field with opportunities across management, finance, supply chain, and consulting. Graduates of LSUA’s program will be well-prepared for careers such as:

  • Farm business manager
  • Sustainable agriculture consultant
  • Agricultural compliance officer
  • Agricultural market analyst

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for farmers, ranchers, and other agricultural managers was $87,980 in 2024. About 85,500 openings for agricultural managers are projected each year, over the next decade.

With the demand for professionals who can integrate business knowledge with agricultural expertise, LSUA’s program positions students at the forefront of industry needs.
