Dr. Felipe Fronchetti, assistant professor in the LSU Division of Computer Science and Engineering, started a path into computer science in childhood through video games. But his interests quickly expanded beyond playing them. Early on, he began building hardware, creating software, and writing code. Later, while studying at university, he volunteered for research opportunities and discovered a passion for the work. Those experiences led him to pursue bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in computer science and a career in academia.
In this video, Dr. Fronchetti shares his perspective on computer science education, technology and its impact on society, software fairness debt, AI, robotics, and why he believes people are at the center of computer science. He also discusses the value of combining technical knowledge with skills such as communication to become a well-rounded computer science professional. His perspective offers insight into how computer science extends beyond technology itself to the people, skills, and larger questions that shape the field.
