Meet Tolerie Moye
What program and school did you graduate from, and what initially made you apply to your program?
I graduated from LSU with an online Master of Science in Sport Management. I chose the program because I wanted to continue growing in the sports industry while shifting more into the business and leadership side of sport. The online format gave me the flexibility to keep working and gaining hands-on experience while completing my degree.
What were your biggest challenges and how did you overcome them?
Balancing graduate school with work and real-world experiences was definitely a challenge. The online format required a lot of self-discipline, especially while working full time and taking on big event work like Super Bowl assignments. I stayed organized, built a strong weekly routine, and learned to plan ahead so I wouldn’t get overwhelmed, even during the busiest weeks.
What was your favorite aspect of the program?
My favorite part was how applicable the coursework was. Everything we learned connected back to real events and jobs. Whether it was sport marketing, finance, analytics, or organizational behavior, I could see how it fit into the sport industry in real time.
How has the program impacted your professional life?
The program gave me confidence to step into bigger professional opportunities. Working with the Atlanta Falcons organization and traveling for assignments like Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans showed me how the industry works at the highest level, and the degree helped me understand the business side of those environments. Being around major events and professional teams reinforced what I was learning in class and pushed me to grow both strategically and professionally.
What does this degree mean to you personally?
This degree means a lot to me. It represents persistence, hard work, and commitment to my goals. Completing this program while continuing to work, grow, and learn professionally showed me what I’m capable of and prepared me for the next step in my career.
What skills or knowledge from the program have been most valuable in your journey?
Communication, strategic thinking, leadership, and understanding how organizations operate have been the most valuable. These skills have helped me communicate better, make decisions confidently, and understand how different parts of an organization come together to make events like the Super Bowl or a team season successful.
What advice would you give to prospective students considering the program?
Stay engaged and intentional. Even though it’s online, you still build real skills and can make real connections. Apply what you’re learning to your work or internships — it makes the coursework click and opens doors you didn’t expect.
What are you most proud of about your time during the program?
I’m most proud of earning this degree while continuing to grow professionally and gaining experiences I once only dreamed about — like working major events and being part of industry organizations. It showed me that I can take on challenges and succeed, even when things get demanding.
