LSU Launches Fully Online Master in Computer Science, Opening Doors to Tech Careers

The LSU Division of Computer Science & Engineering (LSU CSE) is launching a bold new chapter in tech education. Starting this fall, LSU CSE will offer a fully online Master of Science in Computer Science degree. This innovative program is designed to expand access, support career growth, and prepare students from all backgrounds to lead in today’s technology-driven world. 

Unlike many traditional graduate programs, this master’s degree is built to be convenient to students from a wide variety of academic and professional backgrounds. Whether an applicant has a degree in computer science or not, the program provides a clear pathway into the world of tech.

Students will learn from the same nationally recognized LSU faculty who are conducting cutting-edge research and collaborating with industry partners across Louisiana and beyond. The program’s flexible, 100% online format allows students to learn from anywhere, on a schedule that works for them, while still gaining access to the expertise and mentorship of LSU’s College of Engineering. 

 The new program offers both a traditional thesis option and a non-thesis professional path. This professional path is designed for students who want to maximize their learning through additional coursework instead of completing a research thesis. It allows students to broaden their expertise across multiple tech domains, while gaining practical, industry-relevant experience. 

 This path is especially attractive for working professionals or career changers who want to develop applied skills and dive deeper into areas like software engineering, machine learning, and cloud computing. By focusing on real-world knowledge and hands-on projects, the professional path helps students stay competitive and agile in a fast-moving tech landscape. 

With a strong focus on real-world applications, the program prepares graduates for careers in software development, cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and data science.
