Many students in the online Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Management program at LSUE bring big goals and busy schedules with them. Instructor Elizabeth Monk understands that combination well. After a decade working in accounting and corporate finance, and with a full life at home raising four children, she teaches with a strong sense of both professional rigor and personal understanding.

Meet Elizabeth Monk

Tell us about yourself and your background.
I earned my Master’s in Accounting from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. After graduation, I began my career in Houston with Deloitte in the auditing department. Since returning to Louisiana, I have worked at Ernst & Young, BJ Services, and PetroQuest Energy, gaining a wide range of experience that I now bring into the classroom. Outside of teaching, I love cheering on the LSU Tigers, and I spend most of my free time with my husband of 16 years and our four children (ages 15, 13, 11, and 8).

How do you ensure student success in an online environment?
Ensuring student success online requires clear communication, structure, and support. The students are assigned interactive elements like quizzes, discussion boards, and video explanations. I also encourage students to reach out whenever they need help and offer flexible office hours.

How has your academic and professional background prepared you to navigate the unique challenges of online teaching?
I spent 10 years working in the accounting profession before I started teaching at LSUE. My real-world experience and academic knowledge allow me to bring relevant insights into the classroom.

What advice would you give to students on staying motivated and inspired throughout their online journey?
Be sure to maintain a routine and manage workload efficiently and most importantly keep your long-term career goals in mind.
