Meet Michelle Ammon 

What initially made you apply to the online LSUS Doctorate in Leadership Studies program?

I was initially drawn to the reputation of the LSU school system, the caliber of professors, and the rigor of the coursework. I knew if I had the opportunity to become part of the program, I would grow in unimaginable ways.

How did the program prepare you for your career or career advancement? 

The program helped prepare me for career advancement by showing me what I am capable of. I know now that the only limitation to reaching my goals is the effort I am willing to put forth.

What was your favorite aspect of the program?

My favorite aspect of the program was the people. Coming into this program, I had no idea that I would feel such a strong connection with others, given the online format. Yet, I have met some of my favorite people during my time with LSUS and forged life-long friendships along the way.

What skills or knowledge from the program have been most valuable in your job?

I apply many of the concepts from my studies in my professional role; however, it is the skill sets not explicitly taught in the text that I find most valuable. The two most impactful lessons have been:

1. Non-judgmental yet critical contextual analysis of social phenomena, and
2. Listening to others with the intent to understand their perspective rather than to respond with my own.
