MicroCred Badge

The Technical Writing MicroCred is for people with basic writing skills who want to hone their language precision and develop professional communication practices. Participants will learn guidelines and processes for planning, drafting, revising, editing, and disseminating technical content.

Each MicroCred program is made up of two to six individual courses. Successful completion of all courses within the program qualifies you to earn an official LSU digital badge to show off your skill sets. This badge can be used to bulk up your resume and showcase your expertise in the topic. Badges are distributed through Acclaim by Credly. LSU MicroCreds offer a cost-effective means to establish and publicize your knowledge, skills, and abilities in a specialization. Upon successful completion of a MicroCred, you will receive a digital badge from LSU Digital & Continuing Education.

Our MicroCreds are intended especially for working professionals and others who need a flexible means of taking courses and documenting the qualifications they give you. The courses in this MicroCred also earn you college credit, so your MicroCred could also start you on the path to a credit certificate or a college degree.

You may start any course for this MicroCred at any time. Admission to LSU is not required.

Format
The courses in this MicroCred are regular three-credit LSU courses offered through Online Distance Learning. You are allowed six months to complete each course; however, because courses are self-paced, you may complete a course in as little as four weeks. Each course includes a syllabus that explains the course requirements. The courses are completed entirely online.
Requirements
These online courses require access to a computer with Internet access, email, an Internet browser (Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox recommended), MS PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Learning Outcomes
Learners will be able to analyze audiences to create documents for particular readers, write standard reports and correspondence, and manage document design and organization to improve readability, comprehension, and persuasion. They will learn to write clearly, precisely, efficiently and economically, with an understanding of current American usage as well as regional and social variations in the English. They will be able to use current conventions of English grammar and punctuation.
