Construction management is the business side of any construction project. Construction managers have the business skills, experience, and education to oversee the execution of complex construction work in the private or public sector. They also can seek diverse careers as business owners, field engineers, cost estimators, estates managers, consultants, project managers, facilities managers, etc. There are over 30 different career paths in construction for this type of professional.
The curriculum contained within this MicroCred® is for beginners and those interested in basic construction software. It has been designed for those that have at least some understanding of the construction process. This program is for those with or without a college degree who would like to learn about construction materials and methods and how these relate to reading a set of construction drawings. Building upon this knowledge, the learner will be exposed to the electronic side of a few construction processes using On-Screen Take Off (electronic quantity take-offs) and Building Information Modeling (virtual 3D environments).
Upon completion of the three-course series, students will receive a digital badge from LSU Online & Continuing Education that can be used for online résumés, personal websites, or social media. In addition, these are college courses and can be fully transferred into LSU’s online Bachelor of Science in Construction Management (BSCM). These 7-week courses also can be used for continuing education units/credits required by some certifications and licenses.

The courses in this MicroCred® are regular three-credit-hour LSU courses. Each online course runs on a term of 7 weeks. You must complete all three courses to earn the MicroCred and receive the digital badge.
Courses require access to high-speed Internet, email, web browser (Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox recommended), MS PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Each MicroCred® program is made up of two to six individual courses. Successful completion of all courses within the program earns you an official LSU digital badge to show off your skill sets. This badge can be used to bulk up your online résumé and showcase your expertise in the topic. Badges are distributed through Badger. If you have completed this MicroCred® program, request your badge.

CM 1112 Construction Materials and Methods
Principal materials and methods used in building construction, emphasizing common construction systems such as light wood frames, masonry bearing walls, steel frames, and reinforced concrete as well as project planning, work methods, materials, equipment, and sustainability. Drawing identification and quantity takeoff will be introduced.
CM 2116 Construction Plan Reading
Principles of graphic communication applied to reading construction plans with an emphasis on residential, commercial, industrial, and heavy highway plans. Introduction to BIM.
CM 3112 Building Information Modeling (BIM)
Principles of BIM and its application to project execution tasks, planning and sequencing, spatial coordination and clash detection, as well as BIM support for field operations and facility management.
